Do I need an internet connection?
Only to download the app and its speech models, once. After that, listening, timing, practice and the dictionary all work offline.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone and iPad with iOS 17 or later, and Macs with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later. Android 10+ and Windows 10+ follow soon after launch.
What can I bring in?
Audio (MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG), video (MP4, MOV, MKV), EPUB books, PDFs and web articles — with or without a transcript.
Is my first language supported?
Yes. Meanings and translations come in more than 20 languages, and where yours isn't one of them you get clear English definitions. The app's interface is in English, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese today, with more on the way.
How is this different from a text-to-speech app?
ReadAloud doesn't make up a voice. It works with real recordings — real speakers, real accents — and times every word so you can practise with them.
